How to Start a Data Project of Your Own When You’re Already a WineDirect Customer

A few weeks ago I wrote this Enolytics 101 piece about how to start a data project of your own, and included a description of the five steps of the process.

This week we’d like to turn the spotlight onto how to start a data project of your own when you’re already working with one of our partners, namely WineDirect. Given WineDirect’s footprint and adoption within the industry, you may already be working with them for your winery’s DTC ecommerce and fulfillment services.

It’s your data, housed and coordinated through WineDirect. Enolytics’ role is to enhance the data by visualizing it as interactive dashboards.

The end game? Better use of your own data, to run your business better, to generate more revenue.

The Q&A below gets into the details of what a data project with WineDirect looks like, how it works, and how to get things up and running.

I hope it helps.

What exactly is Enolytics offering that enhances the WineDirect platform?

Enolytics Response: The Enolytics platform uses automated data uploads from your WineDirect database using an API. Those data uploads form the foundation for interactive dashboards that address the KPIs that matter to you the most and that you want to “check” every day, such as revenue, profit, club metrics, cases sold by channel, etc.

What exactly is an API? Why do we need it, and how does it work?

WineDirect Response: API stands for Application Program Interface and it’s what allows WineDirect to “talk” directly to Enolytics. Using our secure API, you can automatically sync your data from WineDirect into your Enolytics dashboards.

Our winery is already a customer of Wine Direct. Is there a historical record of our data?

WineDirect Response: Absolutely! All of your historic data, from customer records to order history to club members, is available and can be synced to Enolytics.

How long does it take Enolytics to get a project up and running with WineDirect?

Enolytics Response: Six to eight weeks. On top of connecting and testing the API, Enolytics retrieves all of your historical WineDirect data and store in our secure data warehouse. We also do additional mapping, to make your WineDirect data more useable and meaningful.

Does working with a vendor like Enolytics add additional cost of my winery’s WineDirect account?

WineDirect Reponse: No. Enolytics’ services are optional and separate from WineDirect.
