“You Can’t Win If You Don’t Know the Score”: The Best Line at the DTC Symposium

That’s the winning line from this week’s DTC Symposium

“You can’t win if you don’t know the score.”

That, for us, was the winning (the best, the most salient, the most resonant) quote of all we heard at the wine DTC Symposium in Concord, California this past week.

Dante Love said it as we made eye contact, finally after months of virtual communications, at the Enolytics booth IRL during the conference. Dante is the Senior Director of Ecommerce and Digital Marketing at Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars. He has also earned a certificate in Data Science from MIT.

In other words, Dante is both a wine person AND a data person all at once. He knows at every intellectual, commercial and visceral level that you cannot be successful in wine business without data.

I wanted to drop that in front of you this week. After last week’s Enolytics 101 post about debunking the myth that wine people are not data people, we heard from people we haven't even met yet who embrace both of those combined roles.

The sommeliers and the code-learners.

The vineyard sustainability people and the analysts.

The wine MBAs and the educators.

People like this are among us, maybe even in the office or vineyard next door. They know the score, and they're keeping track of the data to see when (and how) they are going to win.

We're here for it, and we're rooting on every single one of these wins on behalf of wine people and data people everywhere.

Thank you, as always, for reading and for being part of our wine + data community everywhere.

Please be in touch and let me know if we can help with this game-changing journey.
