Silicon Valley Bank State of the Industry Survey: Time to Weigh In

At first glance, it might seem counter-intuitive for Enolytics to advocate for wineries to complete the annual State of the Wine Industry survey from Silicon Valley Bank's Wine Division. Yet that's exactly what we're doing.

Why would that be counter-intuitive.

It has to do with the nature of the data.

The SVB survey amasses qualitative research data from several hundred wineries, while Enolytics does no surveys of our own and instead works with quantitative research data in the millions and hundreds of millions.

Those are significantly different approaches.

Rather than those differences being counter-intuitive, however, we see them as complementary. They are two sides of the same coin, and both are intended to provide insights to help our industry grow and thrive.

There is also one common denominator, and that is the technology.

The tools of analytics are similar regardless of the scale or volume of the data. We've been working with Rob McMillan and his team, slowly and deliberately over time, to assess how SVB's analysis may (or may not) be different than Enolytics' analysis when seen through the lens of a different technology.

It's fascinating, and it underscores the eternal value of human eyes and intelligence on the data regardless of how sophisticated the tools.

We see it as another careful step in the evolution of technology for the wine industry.

Please help us keep the momentum going, and fill in the survey before it closes next week.

Any questions, naturally just let me know.

Thank you for reading and for your help with this --
Cathy
